Primavera 2021

Sara Groisman of Vino Ticino takes us on a journey through time, crossing the geological eras of this corner of Switzerland, the Mendrisiotto area and Mount San Giorgio, where Meride, a medieval village and home to the Museum of Fossils in this UNESCO World Heritage Site, is located, to meet the Ticinosuchus Ferox, the fierce local prehistoric crocodile that rests in the museum. But also through the different eras that the ancient building housing the Locanda San Silvestro has lived through. Its stone door, which has always welcomed tourists, now introduces you to a small Hotel de Charme where the ancient stones, the terracotta of the loggias and the ceiling coffers of ancient wood preserved in the restoration meet modern comforts. The owners of the Locanda wanted to combine ancient and modern to offer a place of peace and deep regeneration to its guests. Alessia Frangi runs the Locanda with chef Ambrogio Stefanetti, who arrived here almost predestined, finding the door “by chance”. And it was love at first sight, a feeling of being at home in the serene rhythms, the genuine fragrances, the essential and welcoming furnishings and the structure rich in the history of the place. They arrived right here, like the erratic boulder that has crossed 20,000 years to find itself in the ancient underground fortifications of the Locanda.
