The Restoration
The restoration has preserved the old house’s original architecture and atmosphere
An antique farming abode from the 18th-century in the centre of town, characterised by its small spaces, its labyrinth of staircases that open up on airy Loggias where corn cobs and tobacco leaves used to be left to dry, and on bedrooms full of light overlooking the surrounding nature.
We wanted to respect the structure’s memories by highlighting its original elements. The stone walls, the 1700s redbrick floors and ceilings with chestnut beams, the original arches and colonnades created by Meride’s “Picasass” in the 18th-century have all been restored, as well as the antique well with its hand-carved curved stones and fresh water straight from the mountain.
The antique fortified medieval foundations, with vaulted stone walls and ceilings, have all been restored and reimagined as a Wellness Zone.
All operations were guided by a wish to respect our surrounding natural environment as well as to provide all our guests with maximum levels of comfort.
The project was developed by architects Omar Berri (Studio R19, Milan) and Ambrogio Grassi (Studio Grac, Medriso) according to an architectural vision that incorporated philological principles, which focused on finding a balance between valuing the building’s historical flavour and maximising the functional comfort of this public space.
The project was then realised by qualified technical partners: local businesses, leading suppliers, and artisans full of passion as well as experience.
