The “Corriere del Ticino”, the most important newspaper in Ticino, dedicates a long article to the reopening of Locanda San Silvestro in Meride. This is the story of the restoration of a place that has been hosting tourists and customers for over a hundred years, first as a Tavern, then as a Guesthouse and now as an Inn with seven rooms and a high quality restaurant.  This is the story of a passion for Meride and its surroundings on Monte San Giorgio, a small paradise in Ticino, in a UNESCO World Heritage area. The Locanda San Silvestro has undergone careful restoration work that has sought to strike a balance between enhancing the value of the ancient elements and providing the comfort and technology of the modern hospitality. The old stone walls, the 18th-century terracotta floors, the chestnut-beamed ceilings and the typical Ticino loggias have all been restored, while home automation systems, Wi-Fi in every room and iPad for TV have also been installed. The Locanda is a place surrounded by greenery, an ideal starting point for walks, bike rides, visiting the nearby Monte San Giorgio Fossil Museum and paleontological trails. Here you can learn about the history of 240 million years ago when Ticino was covered by the sea. The project was supported by the Tourist Board of Mendrisiotto and Canton Ticino.
